I used to listen to these guys all the time in high school.  I haven't heard the albums for a long time so I decided to download them.  Re-listening, I'm thinking, "yeah these guys are just as good as I remember" and "there isn't anyone who plays like this since they formed".  If this music doesn't make you want to get up and do something I don't know what will

Asher Roth makes me want to get up and shoot people. Does that count?

I listened to a lot of Evil Empire when it came out.  Vietnow and Down Rodeo were my favorite tracks.

I still listen to them occasionally, I agree their sound is pretty unique, and no one has really replicated their style since they quit, but it's not like mainstream rock has been very interesting since the late 90s anyways so I don't know if that means they are really good or everyone else has just sucked since.

Mainstream rock is sub par Pearl Jam replicants and boring, tuneless singer songwriter types nowadays...

Kids these days have no idea how to party.

Yeah, they just turn on their Panic At The Disco and rawk out.

I never liked Rage Against The Machine. De La Rocha ruined it for me. He always reminded me of U2's Bono but embraced pretentiousness without the need for self-importance.

Re: RATM Reply #8 on: August 01, 2009, 04:43:34 PM
De La Rocha and Bono are both pretty lame, but I still love RATM. Especially the first album and Evil Empire. After that they kinda fizzled out for me.

U2 on the other hand, I'm very so-so about. They've had some great songs, they put on a good show, but they have to be the most overhyped, overrated band ever. Except maybe the Beatles.

Wow, with all of the cross-overs (AND crossUNDERS!),

i've been pretty amazed by music, all of my life.

i NEVER thought i would EVER say i liked a Rapper, and yet, i really like some of Kanye West AND Bubba Sparxxx.

(Oh, MANG!  PLEASE???  Just one little tangent?   ::)

THAT was why i joined Skip the Dip's Music forum, when i started noticing that i liked the music, and it wasn't really mattering what "genre" the artists fell into.  And some of those folks DID turn me on to some A-fucking-Mazing tunes!  The End.  ~ no, no, don't applaud ~ just throw MONEY!  rofl)

Lots of good ones out there.

Slick Rick, Jedi Mind Tricks, Ice Cube, Ice-T, NWA, MC Lyte, and many others.

Not to mention Wu Tang. Fuck, those guys are good.

I like Jurassic 5, or is that hip-hop?
Loaded-Gun.com - I don't know what the hell they are talking about or why they are even there. They don't make serious points and they don't joke, but they still manage to make a lot of posts somehow.

Re: RATM Reply #17 on: August 03, 2009, 08:13:02 AM
I call it all rap. "Hip hop" just sounds stupid to me.

I use to have a huge crush on Zack De La Rocha.. i gave all my ratm cd's to my parents a long time ago.

Re: RATM Reply #20 on: August 10, 2009, 11:30:53 PM
I thought Zach De La Rocha made RATM at least interesting.

When they changed singers, they became extremely boring radio hard rock.

Yeah.. have any of you guys heard anything by One Day As A Lion? with Zack de la Rocha and Jon Theodore?

See, that's what I thought about Audioslave... if it werent for Cornell, it'd be a soundtrack for a C grade horror movie.

Re: RATM Reply #24 on: August 11, 2009, 06:41:18 PM
I really wanted to live Audioslave, but Chris Cornell's voice never worked for me. The only song of his I've heard that I like is the one he did for Casino Royale, "You Know My Name".

I've subsequently changed my opinion on this. I now dig both Soundgarden and Audioslave.
