I agree w/ Sasha's view pretty much completely.  If you can bond over a few things you can probably put other differences aside.

To be in a relationship you have to be able to not be in one.  You have to be independent, financially and emotionally, so that you don't just anchor to somebody who's wrong for you for your own sake.

You have to have 100% trust in the other person and as soon as that goes the rest goes too.

Just like in a war in the Middle East, it's always good to have an exit strategy.
