I'm getting ready to have some beers, eat some food, and watch some movies (all at the same time)!

When I feel that I've had a better-than-should-be-expected week, I like to reward myself by going to a few movies back-to-back at The Alamo Drafthouse.  It's decadent fun, and worth it when there's a few movies out that are marginally worth seeing.

Tonight, I'm having a prime rib dinner!

Here's question....how many of you eat ribs at a public restaurant?  I can never bring myself to do it.  I like to eat caveman style in private.

I read Gorky Park last night. Normally I look down my nose at "political thriller" fiction but this book is very well written and gives an interesting snapshot of russia in the 80's. Good way to kill an evening on the cheap.

I saw Slumdog and Watchmen, back to back.  I was exceptionally impressed with Slumdog, and moderately entertained by Watchmen.  I think there was more going on in Watchmen than I caught the first time around, so I'll definitely see it again (probably on DVD, though).

People seem to either love or hate Watchmen; I've not heard an "it's ok" yet ...

I saw the midnight showing tonight of Watchman.  I liked it as a very imaginative alternate history (and I love alternate history -- and regular history too).  Still I am encumbered by what its overall moral message about humanity is, and I am pretty pessimistic overall about the nature of human beings, I don't know if the conclusion is acceptable.  Yet as I'm having doubts about the moral acceptability of the movie, I went along for the ride believing all the way in a 40 foot tall neon blue flaccid penis, and think maybe I shouldn't take it so seriously.

When did the underground comic book nerd thing turn chic? Every one of my friends have seen this film, and half of them saw it on midnight showing night. They're all very much establishment types and they nearly all liked it. This doesn't bode well in my view.
