Post rock: shoegaze, experimental, electronica, and space rock(Read 2508 times)
Besides punk and hip-hop, I also really love post rock stuff. Totally into the whole ethereal feel you get when listening to shoegaze bands, and the crazy glitchtronica noise effects of post rock electronica. I would be surprised if any of you are into any of this, but if you haven't heard much at least listen to some of the links below. Typical post-rock songs don't have many if any lyrics/singing. Just pure music. If you don't feel like listening to all of these, then at the very least check out 65DaysOfStatic and Lymbyc Systym. I can't even put into words how the Radio Protector song from 65Days makes me feel.

Some of my favorite bands and songs are:

Explosions in the Sky [

65DaysOfStatic [

This Will Destroy You [

M83 [

Lymbyc Systym [

65DaysOfStatic had one of the best shows I have ever been to in my life. Lymbyc Systym had the second best show of my life.

Just in your face fast glitchy electronica that is spectacularly amazing.

Not totally the same, and kind of obvious, but I'm fucking head over heels for Opal (

Straying further, another well underrated band is 54 Seconds (
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QOXchwgISSE) it's Robin Gibb's kid.

Then there's always Godspeed You. I used to go to one of their two venues pretty often when I was in Montreal although I only actually saw them once.

Hmm, yeah not really that similar heh. Solely because of the singing, which I am not fond of.

Japanese post-rock band, Mono, playing tonight at Mohawk! I may have to venture down there because they sound fucking amazing.

Mono - Black Rain

This type of music is my favorite music to listen to while studying and sleeping.  Whenever I have problems getting to sleep I usually throw in a mix of Sigur Ros and it just clears my thoughts.

I'm gonna go through and listen to all this stuff.  If you can send me any mp3s of any good shit you have I would appreciate it.

The only bands on this list I'm familiar with is Mono and M83 and only very little familiarity.
Pour the wine, hold the grind, quarter to nine, let's go.

I don't like to listen to music when I am trying to fall asleep. If I am with someone who requests it though, I will put in Boards of Canada.

It's rare that I do.  But for nights when I can't get to bed I think downtempo post-rock electronica stuff is the best sleep aid right after jerking off and taking sleeping pills.

I used to play my whole playlist at random when I slept. The only things that ever woke me up were Courtney Love*, Orchid, and Combat Wounded Veteran.

*Don't judge me too harshly. It was part of an extensive Nirvana collection I had. She did some work with Nirvana on some of their more obscure tracks...

I love Chromakey Dreamcoat from Boards of Canada. Almost every night I fall asleep listening to music; my iPod rarely leaves my nightstand. I'll dig around my mp3s and send you a few.

Mono was pretty awe-inspiring. I was happy to see the venue packed for the show too. I met this girl Katherine (could be Katheryn or Catherine, etc.) who came up to me and starting a nice little convo. No need for digits now though!!

"Black Rain" is a reference to the rain after the Hiroshima bombing.

If you want to see me snooze, I used to loop the album "Kid A" and now my brain is stuck.  That will always make me sleepy.
Like yours.  Only different.

I used to love sleeping with music playing, but can't do it anymore. My room is like a nice cool cocoon of silence. I have hurricane windows, which are pretty much soundproof. The only noise in my room at night is the pleasant white noise of my A/C unit.

Oh, and me snoring. Or so Amy claims - I've never heard it.
