Quote from: underclass
For those of you in America, here is what most of the western world knows about your politics... you have a black man in the white house trying to fix healthcare, which is going nowhere because all of a sudden everyone else has a way better way to fix healthcare despite it being a basket case for the last 30 years. You're in two wars you won't win, which will bankrupt you as you try to compete with China economically, which you also can't win because people have less rights and they aren't fighting two wars. Sarah Palin is loathed by every single rational person in the free world. Conan is the governer of California, which is also broke, along with all of your banks. People can't get abortions in some places but can marry their gay partner in others. End.

This is how it reads for the God fearin' 'mericans...

"For those of you in America, here is what you know about your politics... you have a illegitimate non US citizen niggerman in the white house trying to destroy democracy. You're in two wars doing God's work slaughtering the infidel, as our Manifest destiny says we will rule the world. Sarah Palin is the most rational person in the free world. The Governator is the governer of California, which is also full of queers, but he'll sort them out. People can't get abortions because it's an affront to God, but can marry their sister in others, which all good God fearing 'mericans approve of. God Bless 'merica."

New version of Windows is coming out tomorrow or the next day I think.  I'd get one packaged with that on it to save the cost later.
Pour the wine, hold the grind, quarter to nine, let's go.

Oh, I'd thought the release date was today. Hence my post.

Despite it's glowing reviews, remember Windows 7 is a newly released Microsoft product. I would wait a couple of weeks.
Loaded-Gun.com - I don't know what the hell they are talking about or why they are even there. They don't make serious points and they don't joke, but they still manage to make a lot of posts somehow.

So is now the time to order the comp? Or should I wait a week or two?

October 22nd is the launch date in the US.  If you order before then, you just get a voucher for Windows 7, but Vista comes installed.  Presumably, even in LA, Windows 7 will be available & shipping with systems on Thursday as well.

It's a product that's been in open beta since the beginning of the year.  If they'd released the beta from February as the final version, I'd agree with you.

However, this has been used and tested by millions of people at this point.  I can't find the exact number of downloads for the product, but I can tell you that the download limit of 2.5 million was lifted after just a few weeks.

also, i've personally been using W7 since the beta.  at first it was only on a single system.  once the RC came out, I upgraded my primary machine and some others.  when the full version finally hit MSDN in August, I pulled it down & installed it across the board.

I've seen only one issue with Windows 7, and it was an onboard audio driver for my tablet PC which was manufactured 6 years ago; this issue was resolved by (strangely) installing the XP driver.  I've otherwise had no problems with it on desktops, laptops, tablets, DVRs, or gaming machines.

So, while I can't guarantee that it will be as spotlessly beautiful for you as it has been for me, I can be pretty certain that, as a product, Windows 7 is ready for primetime.

Right, by people who know enough about computers to download and install an operating system

MY point there was that millions and millions of people have already been pounding away at Windows 7 for 10 months, knocking bugs out of the system.  If you're telling me that the only people testing the software are intelligent people, all the better.

Oh, I installed it on the computers at my parents house too, and they ALSO love it and have had no problems.  In fact, their printer started working again when we upgraded to Win7.
