I was headed for the cottage to pilot a boat in the "Blessing Of The Fleet" festivities in Colton's Point. So I'm rolling through Crofton, MD and a light about 200 yards of me goes yellow. I stepped on the brake and the pedal went all the way to the floor. I pumped it and got almost nothing. so I glanced around, no one waiting at the cross streets so I blew the light, dropped it into second and coasted to a stop. Brake wheel cylinder blew apart. Took me two and a half hours to limp it back home. If I'd been any further south, any closder to the malls, there would have been massive traffic and I'd not be here.

Anyone know how to get the urine smell out of upholstery?

That sucks, man. I had my brake lines lose pressure once when I was driving a van. I'd come off the highway, gone through a bit of city traffic, drove through a parking-lot, and when I tried to stop in the parking-spot I'd chosen, I drove up onto the island. I was going like 5 miles and hour when the brake died so God obviously likes me.

I had a high speed car chase fly right in front of my friends car on our way back from work last night/this morning, about 2am. Guy was going probably between 100-110mph (straight highway) and our light was green. 5 seconds, dead me too. Good night, I guess. Glad you didnt die  and/or get mangled and deformed, Zoomie.

 I've done that before, only it was blowing a hole in a rusted rear brake line instead. Probably the sort of thing you should check every now and then when you drive a 40-year-old car... Limped it one town over to my parents' place, since they had an actual garage which still contained most of my tools, using a combination of the parking brake (the old-school floor mounted kind you have to pull a release on) and when that failed, driving off the road.


 And when the fuck are people going to learn that if you have an automatic, you can brake with goddamn torque converter? Just downshift, fool!

Why not ? Just shift down, like a manual.  I dont know what kind of autos you have driven but every one I have ever seen has 1st ,2nd and D ( some have more but I have never seen anything without the mentioned )

I've seen autos with just 2 and D, or something like that. And yes, you can downshift autos, but they don't like it much. Still beats getting dead though, I s'pose!

Once my sister got her coat caught on the console shifter and accidentally shifted my old ford into reverse while going down the freeway, it started slowing down right quick. Can't do that in a standard.

I've only owned standards for the last 8 years, never tried to downshift in an automatic. I've just always heard people say it's safer to lose breaks in a manual, so I assumed that you couldn't. I know I know, don't make assumptions...

It was an auto. It's my old Dodge work truck, it has PRND21 and I did pull it down into 2 and then into 1 and then stopped on the auxiliary hydraulics. It's like a back up system but it only works at <10mph. The parking/emergency brake hasn't worked since I replaced the rear end about 8 months ago. I think I fucked the cables and never bothered to replace them.

You know, those things are there for a reason, man ...
