That's because the USA has a team in the World Cup. I would expect that if the US didnt have a team competing, nothing about the RWC would be heard in the US.

The All Blacks have won only one RWC, the first one I think (Nick'll correct me if I'm wrong), so for a rugby team that is supposedly so good, they've underachieved. The Wallabies have a better RWC record, won 3 of them and come second once, or something.
