Quote from: underclass
For those of you in America, here is what most of the western world knows about your politics... you have a black man in the white house trying to fix healthcare, which is going nowhere because all of a sudden everyone else has a way better way to fix healthcare despite it being a basket case for the last 30 years. You're in two wars you won't win, which will bankrupt you as you try to compete with China economically, which you also can't win because people have less rights and they aren't fighting two wars. Sarah Palin is loathed by every single rational person in the free world. Conan is the governer of California, which is also broke, along with all of your banks. People can't get abortions in some places but can marry their gay partner in others. End.

This is how it reads for the God fearin' 'mericans...

For those of you in America, here is what you know about your politics... you have a illegitimate non US citizen niggerman in the white house trying to destroy democracy. You're in two wars doing God's work slaughtering the infidel, as our Manifest destiny says we will rule the world. Sarah Palin is the most rational person in the free world. The Governator is the governer of California, which is also full of queers, but he'll sort them out. People can't get abortions because it's an affront to God, but can marry their sister in others, which all good God fearing 'mericans approve of. God Bless 'merica.

Paul Salopek, an American journalist, is traveling from central Africa to the Southern point of South America . . . on foot!

Nat Geo

I wonder who will behead him first: Afghan warlords or the Mexican drug cartels?

Umm yeah that's not even possible. He will have to take a boat or a plane at some point.

Maybe he could go up through Russia and cross over to Alaska on ice during the winter, but I doubt even that is possible.

Got this on NPR this morning. Why do some people have to tear others down just for living their dream?

I really don't see him making the entire stretch.

I had the idea of walking from Chicago to Nome, AK crossing the Bering Strait into Russia, then walking the entire country to Europe and eventually Spain. According to Google Maps, it would take me five and a half months just to reach central Russia. I'm no Jack London, but I'm pretty sure Siberia would be my final resting place.

People do that kind of wak all the time. I'm out of shape and I still hike maybe 15 miles per week, and when I'm on a trail, 15 miles per day. It's just walking.

I have done much intercontinental travel, but I always use an aeroplane. Walking takes too much time.

I can see why, if it were to get to know folks and the land of the planet we inhabit. But aside from wild animals (both hungry mammals and sociopathic insects alike), unforgiving terrain(aquatic and upended rock), weather systems from gale winds to rising tides... It's ambitious in that regard alone. Add in sketchy human fuckery and that changes the game, son.
