Theres a bunch of assholes having a little meeting this weekend (http://www.pittsburghsummit.gov/ (http://www.pittsburghsummit.gov/)) and my cars in the shop. These guys said they'd give me a place to stay http://www.thomasmertoncenter.org/g20action.htm (http://www.thomasmertoncenter.org/g20action.htm). I think they're all partying here http://www.webcitation.org/mainframe.php (http://www.webcitation.org/mainframe.php). It should be a hoot.

To Pitt, from where?
Not that I'm really considering this. But usually when you ask for a ride, specifying a pick-up location helps to determine the travel.
-
I'm guessing tejas?
-
You can ride on my back.....hop on!

From the webcite link:
Authors increasingly cite webpages and other digital objects on the Internet, which can "disappear" overnight. In one study published in the journal Science, 13% of Internet references in scholarly articles were inactive after only 27 months.
"The study was no longer available at the time of this printing."

I didn't even put together until today that this thread was about the G-20 Meeting.
Protesting is dumb and pointless. World leaders who travel with security guards 360 degrees around them 24/7 and are ferried from conference to conference in limos, planes, and helicopters, do not care what any number of people are doing on the sidewalk. World leaders don't use side walks. NFL Quarterbacks don't let the fans in the cheap seats call their plays for them.
On top of that, if you were a politician, and someone was protesting what you are doing, they clearly out and out hate you. No one would protest against leaders that they liked. If someone hates you they aren't part of your constituency. If they aren't part of your constituency they aren't helping you get re-elected. If they aren't helping your administration currently, or they aren't helping it in the future, and they hate you, and they aren't voting for you, then fuck 'em because why waste your time? There are plenty of interests you can advance working with people who are actually allied with you, so why compromise with those who hate you? Sure it benefits people to be a little bipartisan and know how to cut deals when deals need to be cut, but I really don't know anyone who ever got their way by standing on the sidelines yelling and screaming and drawing pictures and holding them up.
The 60s was the ultra-rare exception to this rule, because American citizens directly were dying because of the draft and fighting in an unpopular war. When you have a conscripted army, you have to pay attention to what your current and future conscripts want if you want them to fight for you. It isn't like that anymore.
If you want to influence decision making at the highest level you have to go through the system and play the game, and by the time you actually get to where you need to be, you will probably have lost all your ideals and guidance along the way in favor of compromise, because compromise is what makes politics.
-
Sorry, but fuck the game. This isn't about war. It's about the system that I'm aparrently suppose to participate in and work within, that just so happens to be fundamentally flawed. Unreparable. Bush, Obama, Bush, Obama. Keep flipping the coin, year in, year out.

And who's "Our Idiot" and "Your Idiot"?
-
John Key, I'm from New Zealand. Your leader is that Kenyan Terrorist
-
Well, you got the idiots part right.
-
MOOLAH AKHBAR!!!!
-
BOOM!
-
It's about the system that I'm apparently suppose to participate in and work within, that just so happens to be fundamentally flawed.
It's not apparent to me that anyone is supposed to or required to participate.
-
In the US, we are notorious for not participating, then bitching about the result.

In the 60s & into the 70s, there was also significant militancy in the States in addition to the conscripted army. I generally think that the only way protests work is if there is an active threat of violence along with peaceful organizations which the politicians can deal with when they're tired of bombings and such.
-
I don't participate much but I only bitch about those who bitch.

I originally took part of your earlier message wrong, then reread the above ending of the post...
