Here's the catch, you're only allowed to pick five. Feel free to change or alter your list after. Note, it's your favorite books, not your "best ever books" list...

Rules:
1. Trilogy's are OK as a book, but not series. Ie, Lord of the Rings is OK but I can't say "The Discworld Series".
2. Likewise, you can't say "anything by such-and-such"

Me first, I really had to think about this. In no particular order:
Catch 22 - Heller
100 Years Of Solitude - Marquez
Kim - Kipling
The Richest Man in Babylon - Casson
The Lord Of The Rings - Tolkien

Loaded-Gun.com - I don't know what the hell they are talking about or why they are even there. They don't make serious points and they don't joke, but they still manage to make a lot of posts somehow.

Very hard.

Welcome to the Monkey House (Vonnegut)
Sprawl Trilogy (Gibson)
The Double (Dostoevsky)
The Crying of Lot 49 (Pynchon)
The Nova Trilogy (Burroughs)

As you can see I'm aiming for series/collections, and I wish I had space for more Russians...

Me too... In the end I went for the books that I can pick up at any time, and start reading from any point again and again

Well you assume that we all have read 5 books.  Not that I don't like reading, it's just that between using my computer, playing videogames, and trying to catch up on all my DVR recorded shows, books are really hard for me to pick up.  The times that I've been deprived of my normal entertainment, I have been known to pick up a few.  So don't assume that I think the following list (at least the bottom of it) of books are amazingly awesome, some might just be 7 or 8 out of 10's if I rated them due to my extremely limited library that I've actually read the full way through.

1.  A Clockwork Orange
2.  Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
3.  Siddhartha
4.  Pet Sematary
5.  The Hellbound Heart

Hahaha! Nice!

Off the top of my head...

-Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card
-To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
-A Short History of Nearly Everything by Bill Bryson
-Skin Tight, Native Tongue, Tourist Season, Double Whammy, Sick Puppy, and Skinny Dip by Carl Hiaasen

Yes, I cheated. Fuck it. It's a slightly more interesting list than it would've been with just 5 Hiaasens.
ever tried. ever failed. no matter. try again. fail again. fail better.

Nope.  Only a very few words I had to look up because I couldn't come to a conclusion of what they meant.
