My brother once carried me back into my apartment when I had a broken leg.

I was drunk, belligerent, and refused to go to the hospital.  My roommate called my brother while he was in the middle of getting a blowjob and my brother skipped getting laid to save me from the police/hospital/sleeping on someone's lawn/general mess that was in store for me if left to my own devices.

That's probably the worst thing I've ever done to him.

AA meetings, when she was too drunk to drive herself. (1 time)
Abortion clinic. (twice)
Court. (3 or 4 times)
Ex Boyfriend's house so I could hold him back while she went back inside for some things she'd left when she waled out on him. (Just once.)

She's actually a great woman, and is doing well for herself these days. But it was sort of a winding road...

I lived in my sister's guest room for a while - to mitigate the verbal abuse she was taking from her nutty ex husband, until she finally worked up the nerve to leave him.  Then moving her back to my parent's place was kind of uncomfortable.

I've never really had to do anything uncomfortable for my brother.  He never takes chances or does anything crazy.

This is awesome. I usually hate the whole "bros before hos" gayetry, but if it's an actual blood brother then that's an entirely different matter. Very cool of your brother.

My sister steals from me and calls me "sweetie" in a catty voice when she's trying to be mean to me.  She got drunk yesterday, which was forbidden, and then started to be a bitch.  I told her she could leave and she said "oh I don't think you want me to leave." I then said, "oh yea?? why?" and she said "because I will tell your boyfriend some shit" and I said "go ahead.. you have nothing on me and it would just give me a reason to never talk to you again."  It made her shut up... but why did I even have to deal with that??

She's only going to change her life around if she wants to badly enough. It's cliched as fuck, but some people have to hit rock bottom before they recover.

I envy your life if your experience with addicts makes you think that couch surfing with family is "rock bottom".

While it is true that I have limited personal experience with addicts, a close reading of my post will reveal no indication that I considered that to be rock bottom.

Consider:
Sasha asks why she has to put up with sister being an alcoholic.
I suggest that her sister's lifestyle may not change until she hits the bottom.

You'll notice that I've bolded a section of the previous line. That was no accident. I hope this clarifies things for you.

To recap: I've thankfully never had to deal on a personal level with an addict that was so close to me that I couldn't ignore their problems, but that doesn't mean that I'm an idiot. Sometimes even without personal experience a person can understand basic concepts like the fact that a drunk yelling insults from their sister's couch is not at the bottom yet.
