I'm not supposed to have lentils, but I do love them.

Quorn-anything here is crazy expensive. But it makes for a nice alternative to meat, cholesterol-free, and low saturated fat, so I'm eating it fairly often these days.

How expensive are we talking?

I think the cost of living is supposed to be quite high here compared to other countries but we grow barely anything ourselves.

Is this Quorn a soy based product?

No.  Quorn is non-soy.  It's fungus.

I guess it's all relative.

I'm spendin loads of money on food atm because it's a few days before my first exam and I snack a lot when revising. It's annoying how expensive fruit is.

Hell yeah.  Blueberries have gotten really pricey.

Homemade French Onion Soup FTW!!!

I love onions but I'm not that big a fan of onion soup. I don't know why.


My housemate though hate onions so much she used to leave the room if I started chopping them. She's not as bad now but she's still straight out the door if I start frying them.

I've always wondered, what makes it French?

Had wholewheat veggie roti and wholewheat doubles last night for dinner. Excellent.

Now veg soup and wholewheat english muffin to dip. Seems to be a recurring theme.

I had roasted sweet potato, broccoli, & chick peas with spicy African seasoning and a quarter of an avocado for lunch.

I basically have 1 carb 1 bean 1-2 vegetables tossed together every day for lunch.  Rice, black beans, kale & peppers was last week.

Roasted sweet potato is so fucking good.

I originally knew them as Trini street/drunk food. I went there for a wedding years ago and had doubles on the way home, and was hooked from the getgo. So much better than the bread and government cheese that was Antigua's drunkfood of choice at the time. And now the Trini restaurant in town (Roti King) does doubles as well as roti. It's awesome.

A quarter avacado? That's like one spoonfull.

We're back to getting loads of food from our allotment.

Especially strawberries. We go to water all the plants and before I do any work I always spend the first 20 mins picking and eating strawberries.

Grapefruit is still ... not very nice.

I love grapefruit flavoured stuff, not wild about grapefruit itself.

Hmm, I should probably give it a second chance, it's been years since I tried grapefruit. Let alone grapefruit flavoured stuff.

Grapefruit segments with sugar sprinkled on top are amazing.

Paella

Well I finally found out what this really is. I heard about it on Jerry Seinfeld. And I've always wondered wtf it was. Turns out it's nothing special, just a rice dish with sea food. Calamari, oysters or mussels, and shrimp and chopped up bell pepper. Mostly rice though. Usually with a chicken broth base.

Some people use chicken and sausage like in a gumbo, but to be authentic I think you would have to stick to sea food

It's pretty fucking good, why they made it out to be something mysterious is beyond me.

It's a Valencian dish. At my grandparents' 50th wedding anniversary party (they lived in Catalunya) they had a team of guys come and do a paella in a fucking massive dish, like 6' across. Fed dozens of people.
