Boycott the coming election!

I started thinking this might be the only current non violent way to express our collective feelings as US citizens to our state of affairs, did a search and as always someone else already thought of it..  click on the image if you are lost

It might be what the bad guys are hoping for actually. But here it makes no difference. As long as most people vote for either of the favorite candidates we are fucked.
We can't vote the bullshit away, so a boycott at least sends a message that can't be ignored by future generations.

I have voted every single year since I was old enough to do so, so a boycott is difficult for me, if Ron Paul actually is on the ballot I might vote for him even though he has no chance.
But that would be breaking the intent of a boycott. It's a conundrum.

I won't be voting, because for me to be able to, my mother would have to go register in the last state she lived in, which was NY. So it would be an awful lot of trouble to go to just for two more votes in NY for Obama.

Meh, it's not like Obama's been able to do anything except continue Bush policies and react to the loudest empty vessels.

If Obama had any power, he would have easily refuted the class war accusations and imposed a large tax increase on the rich, for one thing.

He's not the SuperSpade I think a lot of us had hoped for.

Re: Here's an Idea Reply #10 on: March 24, 2012, 01:55:23 PM
Obama turned out to be just another game piece, fielded not by the democrats or republicans-those titles mean nothing, fielded by the same people who installed bush.

They knew he would take the election due to the backlash effect from all the black voters who were  disenfranchised by the criminal activity surrounding bush's so called election and those who support them.

A nice way to divert attention while they continued to massively loot the American public.

Cabals, what an interesting concept.

With 99% of the worlds wealth  now OWNED by 1% of the global population a person would have to be completely insane to believe in such such a ridiculous concept. Even if they do compete with each other. (just for fun, owning all the wealth is boring)

Get the fuck real Daddy, of course they will need a few slaves. Everything is going as it should be.

Fuck humanity we don't deserve to survive.

Because we can't police our own niggers.

(niggers in this context has absolutely no relation to skin color)

Re: Here's an Idea Reply #16 on: April 24, 2012, 01:39:05 PM
Yeah... Chris Rock is a comedian and happens to be black. He's supposed to say outlandish shit, he's paid to. When you use that word, you come off as ignorant at best, if not straight up racist. Is this fair? Hell no. But lots of things aren't fair.

I used to argue that the word ending in -a had a different connotation to the one ending in -er. And there's some truth to that. I've used the former before, with friends. I was always careful to only use it around friends who had encouraged me to do so, so I was certainly not offending anyone. But I've come to realize that even that's not OK with me. It's an ugly, hateful word, and no matter what anyone says, it hasn't yet been "reclaimed". I would say that the best example of a hateful word being reclaimed by the people it had been aimed at is "queer". But even so, queer has never been as nasty and hurtful a word as nigger. It literally just means "weird". And even now that it's lost some of its power, I wouldn't use it. Is this my burden as a straight, white male? That I can't throw around "nigger" and "queer" and "faggot" and "wetback" and whatever else? Well boo-fucking-hoo. Some burden!
ever tried. ever failed. no matter. try again. fail again. fail better.

Re: Here's an Idea Reply #17 on: April 24, 2012, 01:55:08 PM
I agree.  Even among friends who I am certain are okay with me using any of those words, I just can't do it.  I have two problems with it:

1. I don't want to get comfortable throwing a word around when it's only appropriate in specific situations or with specific people.  It's just easier not to use the word at all.  Which leads into the second thing:

2.  I don't want to deal with third parties.  It's one thing if you can claim you're reclaiming a word.  It's an entirely different argument if you end up being the straight white dude being called out when someone hears you use "nigga" or "faggot" with a friend who's cool with it.

Re: Here's an Idea Reply #18 on: April 24, 2012, 04:28:23 PM
Yeah, both very good points. I'm finding myself self-censoring a lot more than I used to these days, now that I've given these things some thought. I'm attempting to ease up on blaspheming, since it really matters to a lot of people, and doesn't benefit me in any way to be able to use that stuff. I don't believe in any of this crap, and for a long time I felt justified in using blasphemy (if I even thought about it, which I hardly did) BECAUSE it's all made up bullshit to me. But looking at from another perspective, not believing is just as good a reason to NOT use it. I live in a very religious place, and have lots of quite religious friends. And that's the key - I don't mind pissing off the type of religious person who never shuts up about it and tries to convert everyone, but I do mind upsetting people who are friends of mine and have never even begun to give me shit for not believing in the same things they do. Me bursting out with "jesus fucking christ!" may not be aimed at them (or anyone, for that matter), but if I'm saying it in front of them I'm as good as saying that something that's important to them is worth less than nothing and I have no problem shitting all over it. This is not the message I mean to send.

Two more words I don't like, while I'm at it:

"Retard". It's ugly and hurtful and far too socially acceptable. Yes, I know the origin of the word isn't that bad, but the connotation it's taken on IS. The title at the top of this board bugs me, has done for a while. Between the use of that word and the unncecessary capitalization, it makes us seem.... well, mentally challenged?

"Bitch". This one stings, because I've used this word extensively for years. Rarely when referring to anyone female, but that doesn't mean anything. The word is sexist and derogatory. If you call a man a bitch, you're calling him womanly, which implies that womanly is undesirable. If you call a woman a bitch, you're as good as calling her uppity, because how dare she not know her place and dare to act in a way that's perceived as manly? And using bitch as a derogatory word implies that dogs in general, and female dogs specifically, are undesirable to be compared to. And that's just silly. Dogs are the best people I know.

ETA: there are very few scenarios in which the word "asshole" couldn't work interchangeably with the word "bitch". And asshole is equal-opportunity, since we all have one. The only time this doesn't work is when using bitch as a verb. The closest I can come up with to a replacement that still gets across the desired meaning of complaining in a whiny manner, but without implying that someone is complaining in a whiny manner, just like a woman, is "kvetch". But that has its own baggage, and most people don't even know what it means.

Re: Here's an Idea Reply #21 on: April 24, 2012, 10:19:06 PM
In certain situations, I will use the word "negro" in a greeting, as in "sup, negro"... it just sounds cooler than nigger/a/ah...

I call certain people "fag" in the same sort of context... it's never derogitory, and I expect same in return. Outsider who might hear such terms and be offended can get fucked, it is none of their business.

I use the word "retard" (specifically retarded) to describe situations, rarely use it about people.

I use the word "cunt" in almost every situation I can.

Dogs are the best people I know.

That may be true Si, however I grew up in the 50s-60s as a really skinny geeky looking white boy who got picked on a lot by the blacks. A situation that lasted all the way through school until I joined the mil. Today in reference to my post on this subject the very best example I can imagine of what I consider a true nigger in the context intended is George Bush Jr et al.

Re: Here's an Idea Reply #24 on: April 25, 2012, 04:21:28 AM
There ya go, now you're failing better. My use of the term in today's world didn't involve racism in the least.
A word can never be re-purposed if nobody is willing to use it. Politicians are supposedly public "servants" some are as far from it as one can get and deserve inventive derogatory terms. (Please don't be confused by the fact that our current president is allegedly black, I hadn't even considered that factor when I made the post.) But even he may come to deserve it before his "service" is terminated. He has already proven himself to either be one of the good ol boys or is their servant.

As you say it is a strongly derogatory term and shouldn't be wasted simply because of past historical use. Can't think of any other single term that would fit and have the same powerful social impact on the target when used to describe people like the bush's.

Perhaps I am stretching the boundaries of what people are capable of understanding when attempting to use it in this fashion, but as the song goes-that's my prerogative.
Reality; A shared narrative we all agree to believe.

Re: Here's an Idea Reply #25 on: April 25, 2012, 09:47:31 AM
Harsh language (not just the particular words being discussed) generally detracts from arguments.  If you have some sort of argument to make about the Bushes, for example, it's best to lay it out as rationally as possible and try to force other people to defend their position coherently.

In particular, harsh language where you'll end up in a digression of defending it instead of debating an actual point is counter-productive.  If you have to add a caveat to defend your choice of terminology it's probably not worth using.

Oh, totally. I'm not arguing against anyone being allowed to use these words, I'm arguing against their use. Anyone is welcome to use "nigger" as a word for anything they like. Call coffee "nigger juice" if you like. You don't mean anything racist, right? It's just a nickname for coffee! But good luck ordering your morning cuppa without sounding like a racist prick to anyone who hears you.

BTW not to beat a dead horse off, but the, "this black comedian said this so it's OK for me to tell everyone how much I agree all the time" thing is pretty much the cousin of "I can't be a racist, I have a black friend".
