Instead of starting a million new threads that nobody gives a shit about, I figure we could have a catch-all.

Do you guys seek out new music regularly? And by new I just mean new to you, I don't care about whether or not it's contemporary. I've recently rediscovered torrents which makes getting albums the easiest way to do things, and then I just burn mp3 cds with multiple albums and listen to them in my car (which seems to be where I do the vast majority of my music-listening).

The Black Keys.

My favourite new band I've gotten into recently, they fucking rock. Their earlier stuff was OK, but the last three albums have been fantastic. They're on my list of bands I really wanna see live.

Discovery. Indie-pop project of the keyboardist from Vampire Weekend and the lead singer of Ra Ra Riot. They have a couple of really good songs and a few meh ones. Speaking of which...

Ra Ra Riot. I fucking HATE the name of this band, and I think it's made me enjoy their music less than I would've, which is stupid, but there ya go. I like them OK.

Miike Snow. Swedish indie-pop, really fucking good.

Dan le Sac vs Scroobius Pip. Best UK hip hop I've heard, probably ever. Best hip hop in general that I've heard recently.

Wakey!Wakey! Twenty Two

Wakey!Wakey! Dance so Good

This is a really good band. I only found them the other day. Been listening non stop. : D

These are not the best songs to showcase their talent but right now they're my favourites. xD

Jamie T - Earth, Wind & Fire |Kings & Queens (LP)|

(this recommendation came from the same place as the Scroobius Pip one - an english girl I met with awesome taste in movies and music and other good stuff. fun.)

I really like Jamie T. Hadn't heard that song before. The problem is that I'm really lazy when it comes to music so I hear a couple songs of an artist and I cba to download more even if I like them. It's probably for the best, its an expensive habit.

I been groovin' on this band recently... sure it's probably post-grunge, but its way better than Nickleback. Live they're unbeatable.

Cockfight Shootout

Been diggin' this too...

EDDY CURRENT SUPPRESSION RING, GET UP MORNING

These guys been around a while... natural decendents of all good Oz pub rock... Dave'll probably dig it...

Electric Mary - 'Let Me Out'

Nice to see a Melbourne boy get a nod above...

This makes me laugh every time I see it

Bleeding Knees Club - Nothing To Do (Official Clip)

There's tons of great disposable stuff happening down here

DZ Deathrays - No Sleep (Official Clip)

Me too, actually. Straight Outta Compton, The Chronic and 2001, Doggystyle, Eminem's early stuff. So I guess late 80's through early 00's, which was the best time ever for rap.

Yeah, like me, he arrived here as a little kid... There is a common thread in the first 3 clips I posted, they're all Melbourne acts... second two are from Brisneyland. And that's just the very tip of a huge iceberg.

Re: new music Reply #20 on: May 18, 2012, 05:56:26 PM
Don't take it personal but I didn't care for that Shelia song much.

Maybe it's because I'm listening on my laptop but it kinda reminded me of a transistor radio in an empty apartment. Umm and I guess I didn't bother trying to understand the message because the sound made me cringe. Sorry.

haha I'd never heard the Colt45 song. It's good. The only Afroman song I've heard was of course Because I got High.

you posted a song called zombies by a band called judgement day, they play cellos.
I like the song but how is that not 'hipster' ?

Also epicness - on the side of the song zombies was a link to the Sri Visnu Sahasranama - 1000 names of Vishnu.

Something different -

"I'M GONE" by Graveyard Train

I really like this.

I am slowly working my way through all the songs in this thread.

Yeah, I still have to listen to all the Melbournage. I'm hindered by not being able to do so from work, which is where most of my online time happens.
