Never mind, I liked Andy and yes I watched all the episodes of The Andy Griffith Show and Mayberry RFD while it was still in syndication. I really liked him.

Can we just say he was a great actor and pay our respects?



 

I wouldn't know. That whisting intro with the dudes walking along the road with fishing poles (?) was always a cue for me to change the fucking channel because TBS was about to suck for a while.

Yeah, maybe. But I think the same is probably true of a lot of "classic" shows. If you weren't there at the time, it's just not gonna work. I mentioned Wings in another thread recently, and I think that's a good example. For me, that show is one of the best ever. But then I caught it in the early 90's when it was first syndicated and being shown on USA. It was relevant to the time, and what's more I pretty clearly remember that era, because I was there. Show some 17 year old Wings now, and they might well find it pretty dated and stupid. Or show it to some 27 year old in 2022, and the only reaction you're gonna get is, "WTF? why is there canned laughter constantly?"

I watched it in B&W, not because the later episodes were in B&W but because my family never had a color TV until about 1974.
