That was kinda boring because I've heard both sides so many times but I think Bill made the better case.

Conclusion: "Is creation a viable model of origins"
Answer: No!

Having said that I would like to propose that if a person threw a firecracker into the air and for whatever reason the time scale within the explosion were such that billions of (internal) years passed inside the explosion, it took on a structure as it expanded and cooled and somehow life evolved. Would that kid who haphazardly threw the firecracker into the air before running off to play be a creationist god?

They should have more of these debates, except the topics should be based on something tangible and capable of advancing thought. The symposium, I feel, is a lost cause in Nye's case. He's an honest scientist that understands that the US should be devoted to teaching and funding science. Instead of having symposiums about quarks, nuclear fusion, dark matter, etc., he is arguing the validity of evolution with a complete fucking moron. It's not time well spent. We should be moving ahead while idiots like Ham devolve into babbling monkeys.

I think there's room for both, but straight-creationism could use some tweaking.  I believe that everything that happened after the big bang happened as scientists say it did/is doing.  But what touched off the big bang?  Take the kid with the firecracker example.  They say God is all-knowing, and all-seeing.  They also say he's timeless.  Ok, so if you were to construct a telescope that was able to peer through the boundary of the universe, would you see a kid frozen mid shout at the explosion he just created, or would you see a stream of matrix-like characters, which is how we would perceive being inside God's computer if the universe is just a massive program (to our perspective, an existence simulation to His).  You can't rule out the kid with the firecracker because if the entire span of existence were to be played out in a fraction of a second, occupants of that universe looking out would see this world totally frozen in time.  If we're a simulation on God's cosmic hard drive, is his machine off?  Is it on, right now?  Is he busy writing programs for warp drive now?  Or is he, like all players of the Sims, just fucking with us?
(from bash.org) <Twig> I just had an argument with a girl I know. She was saying how it's unfair that if a guy fucks a different girl every week, he's a legend, but if a girl fucks just two guys in a year, she's a slut. So in response I told her that if a key opens lots of locks, then it's a master key. But if a lock is opened by lots of keys, then it's a shitty lock. That shut her up.

I think there's room for both, but straight-creationism could use some tweaking.

The first episode of Cosmos spent quite a while on this topic, and basically saying something I've been saying for years: believers in an omnipotent deity are far too reluctant to truly believe in its omnipotence.

I would gladly accept a creationist concept that dealt with a cosmological view of creation, buuuuut Ken Ham and other vehicles for he creationist movement would rather push biblical passage than metaphysical theory. Plus, Creationism is masquerading as "science" in order to supplant it's religion into classrooms. It's probably not even about the Bible so much as it is that these lunatics are trying to fucking control how everyone thinks!
