Are there any favorite artists of yours who are getting old, that you would be really sad to see die?  Hans Ruedi Giger, greatest airbrush artist to ever live, is pushing 70.  I'm curious to see how much attention his death will cause, whether it will be barely noticed or if all of a sudden a million people will start videotaping tributes.

His shit is expensive. I tried to buy some artbooks of his on ebay once but their prices quickly spiraled into the ionosphere.

I've always wanted to visit his bar.  That would be a trippy experience if you were to drop something before going in.

Ever checked out any of Zdzislaw Beksinski's work? My brother was really into him for a while. I have to admit he is pretty sweet. On a more realistic note, I have a number of books of Ernst Haeckle's prints. Totally engrossing art.

Re: Uh oh.....he could croak at any moment Reply #4 on: April 05, 2009, 08:36:01 PM
Beksinski's pre-CGI work is far superior to Giger's, in my opinion, but unfortunately he's already dead.

People who are getting too fucking old for me to be comfortable with:

Gene Wolfe (author)
JG Ballard (literary fetishist)
Tom Waits (noisemaker)
David Lynch (drama major)
Elvis (outsider)

I hope David Lynch dies a horrible death.

Well, ok not really, I hope Adam Sandler dies a horrible death......I just hope David Lynch dies soon.

Yes, as a matter of fact they did.  Talk about a pretentious asshole who's laughing all the way to the bank because of people like you.

Ballard is fucking awesome.

As is Tom Waits, but I didn't realize he was that old?

And Giger is indirectly responsible for those parental warnings on CDs. Which I'm sure have saved many, many children from the evil corruption of "bad" language and depictions of sex.

That was basically my sarcastic point. All those "warnings" do is give an album some street cred. Although the lack of one on an album that ought to have one is a warning that it's the shitty clean version.

Waits looked spritely enough in Knoxville last yeah in concert, but he was showing his age. It's time for him to grow a beard.
Skybox, right up here in section La-Di-Dah.

Rolf Harris is immortal.

He made a pact with Satan.

Not a very good one, usually people keep their youthful looks.

And really, do you really expect to get everything you want from the Devil?

The Peter Cook, Dudley Moore version was better.

that may be so, but Liz Hurley is immensely fuckable, therefore that was an excellent post
Loaded-Gun.com - I don't know what the hell they are talking about or why they are even there. They don't make serious points and they don't joke, but they still manage to make a lot of posts somehow.

Exactly. I've never seen the original, so I have no idea, but DAMN she was hot in that movie.

Everything but a soul.

what if you could make a deal with him to get a better soul for your own?
Like yours.  Only different.

Pfft.. Last year two of my friends signed away 1/4 of their souls to me; I signed away 1/4. I could easily get a better soul for myself.

There are no souls.  You die.  That's it.
