I passed all the entrance exams for the Air Force, but ... shit happens.
Now my childhood friend made it into the Air Force but was summarily discharged for trafficking stolen weapons. 

I have a friend I wanted to the army and did a few years and the stockade for whatever reason ... You are trusted with a lot of things there, and I guess there's a lot of temptation ...

I never had to deal with that, I guess; I was in the army and had no issues ...

I always assumed the military was pretty rapey, so it's no surprise that all of the data & stories coming out says there are major problems.
