Okay so I made this bag and I made this dress.  The pictures of the dress do not do it justice.  It looks super good on and I wish that my boobs weren't so big because then it would look a lot better.  I put them up on my etsy shop but here are pictures:

Honestly when I first saw that type of dress I did think they looked like pregnant woman dresses. Then I saw them worn by several sexy chicks and they grew on me, and now they look cute to me.

I am probably going to take it down from my Etsy and sell it in this DIY boutique in town.  The split at those stores is always so shitty though, but it's worth it for the exposure.  I need to make about five more dresses and a few more bags this weekend in order to do that.  Not having any free slave labor sucks.

Selling in the store would be good for exposure. You should also plaster your etsy stuff all over the internet and create a facebook fan page. The easier you are to google, the more business you get (its how I get more gigs!)

Got any musician friends in the scene down there? Get one to wear your dresses for interviews for free on the promise that they'll always mention where they got the dress. You only need one publication to really get people looking...

Just make sure you can produce the orders you take.  Overstating production capability by taking too many orders can kill your 'word of mouth' at the speed of a click.

I have another idea for you:  Sexy Serapes!  You're in AUSTIN!  Capitalize on the culture, do some crossover fashion ~ some of the materials out there, now, are so sensual.  <sigh>  And lots of women like a little "cover," that still allows them to feel (and LOOK) sexy, even if their bodies aren't just perfect.

Definitely have more dresses of that style ready to go in different patterns/colours, and you should definitely make a FB fan page. It'd only be annoying if you spam the shit out of the people who "like" your fan page, which is a stupid move in my opinion. Honestly though, despite being a very unfashionable hetero male, I believe that there's a market for the stuff you make. Both the bag and dress you posted would be things that I'd find appealing on a girl as a guy looking at girls, and while that may not count for much, it does suggest that you make nice-looking things. If you could get exposure and find that there's a demand out there, stepping up production must be relatively easy.

sasha-- i think the dress is adorable, particularly sans the afore suggested "custom fit dart" tailoring (no offense here, fyre, but the darts you explained sound quite dated and tired and worst of all: done). does it have pockets? love pockets, although those are a bit overdone at this point as well. they're just so damn handy.

I wouldn't say all darting is outdated, if you keep it minimal and noninvasive when doing, say, an A line dress in that 1950s cocktail style, its quite in.
Darting on that kind of dress isn't what is the current style, that I agree on.
