I keep finding LEGOs on the street as I walk to school. I always pick them up and then add them to a growing sculpture when I get home. I have some 15 or 20 pieces by now. My friends always feel obliged to remind me that picking shit off the street is unhealthy. Fuck that noise. If I see a LEGO, it's going in my pocket. My only fear is if the muggers figure me out and make a line of them leading into a side alley.

Rather than practice for that concert tonight, I'd like to talk about radio songs that you would rather jam a fork into your ear than hear ever again? They might be good songs, but the radio industry completely destroyed them. List them here!

The Wall - Pink Floyd
Communication Breakdown - Led Zeppelin
Most radio beatles
Most Bruce Springstein
Edit: added Another one Bites the Dust - Queen

Yeah all the Modern Rock stations still play early 90s grunge in heavy rotation.

Yeah, but its the freshest music going around today!

People who listen to commercial radio stations hate music.

Isn't that the truth.
Reality; A shared narrative we all agree to believe.

Dire Straits   ( Funny thing, I want my MTV is the only song that the commercial stations play uncensored, the word "fagot" is there for all to here, no matter what time of day it is. Green Day, gets censored, any of those songs with the word "gun" or "ass" gets censored. ~shrug.)

I've been thinking, we must be getting close to a point where they'll need to spin up a new radio station, to allow the 90s/00s to branch off and stagnate.
Like yours.  Only different.

You can add Dragon, Mondo Rock, Australian Crawl, Noiseworks to that list too.

I cant listen to anything other than RRR or PBS these days. JJJ annoys the hell out of me, since Kingsmill decided that JJJ should be more like MMM in format.

Ohio music.

Meaning any music I heard on the radio or that was played by patrons of the bar I worked at when I lived Ohio.

I would often play The Pogues or Nick Cave's Scum back at them.
It's truly a shame I am no longer there to yell at girls to make out with you.

I'm a rather odd musician ...
I'll JAM anything, however, I rarely listen to music as a "recreation" ....
(because I spend a lot of time learning/practicing, etc tons of songs for my shows)

I think that was part of the underlying point, or at least where this would have gone if this were a "musician's" thread ....

Same. There's so much beauty in silence. Like right now, i'm sitting in silence. Beautiful.

I suppose this is a musician's thread since a musician started it - but it didn't stay that way as the average poster here has a real job unlike us.

I have a constant feed of music going into my ears if I'm not watching a video or TV or something.

Yeah, Skynyrd's best stuff is definitely not their more well-known shit.

Dave Callan is Irish.

I prefer the midget Headley Gritter on RRR for a Saturday overnight experience. There used to be a Yank on there as well, the Brain. His show was awesome.

I miss Stern and it's ALMOST enough to get me to renew my subscription to Sirius.  If they had an Internet radio only option for something like $5-6 a month, I would do it.

Re: practicing? who does that anymore? Reply #25 on: April 18, 2009, 11:44:46 PM
See I hate commercial radio. I had Sirius for 3 years and had to give it up recently. I have my iPod but sometimes I don't want to listen to music. So it's NPR and my iPod, which is an ecclectic mix of Johnny Cash, Led Zeppelin, Elvis Costello and one hit wonders from the 60, 70s and 80s. Yes, that means Robert John, Aha and The Screaming Trees.
