I've been told that there are very stringent rules for automobile registration in Maryland, you have to have some kind of certified test and you have to get two license plates on your car (front and back)? Does this cost a lot? Is there anything else I'm forgetting?
Ok, so you have MI plates and you need to get MD plates... MD law says you when you live in MD for 60 days you have to get a
MD drivers license and
title and plates for your vehicles.. if not that neighbor that hates you could turn you in.
To get the plates, yes, 2 plates.. (they fuck you hard if you don't have a front one) you will need to title your car in MD which is now $50 (was $35), pay for state inspection,
emission test (depending on where you live.. it's not required down here on the shore) and pay for
registration.
I have to get new plates this August when my birthday rolls around, and register my car in this state for the first time instead of Michigan.
On the other hand, I may just try to re-up my plates/regs in Michigan when I go back for a friend's wedding in July and claim my folks address to avoid this hassle if I can do that.
I don't recommend keeping the MI plates and driver's license unless you plan on moving back sometime in the near future. MD cops are assholes and when they pull you for out of state plates they will ask you things like place of employment and proof that you have been in MI recently, such as a recent fuel receipt.
