My friend Alan Wolfe needs your help! He was paralyzed in a recent accident and needs money to keep him in a rehabilitation center until Medicaid can help pay for it. Please help, please! I know that most of you don't know him, but think about what if this happened to you. Wouldn't you pray and hope for the kindness of others? If we get a $36 donation from 1000 people we will reach our goal. Give anything you can though, it will all be accepted!

If you guys have ideas for charity drives, please share them.  My friends are pretty much putting me in charge of all of this, because I get shit done and have a can do attitude.  Thanks guys!

Explain the "accident", is he a true victim or future Darwin Award.

I thought about "what if this happened to you"...the answer is my health insurance would take care of it.

He was laid off from his job earlier this year.  When he was laid off his insurance expired.  While he was looking for a job he was doing odd jobs in the meantime.  He is 34 years old so it's not like he could get on his parents health care.  He is a victim of the place he went swimming not having signs posted of where shallow water and where deep water was.  I know most of you don't give a shit but if you feel like being nice, please donate money.  I donated money and my time so far to helping my friend out.  It sucks to me that people are so selfish and only care about themselves, yet when something like this happens to them they bitch and moan and wonder why other don't give a shit.  SO thank you if you care and piss off if you don't.

Re: My friend Alan Reply #3 on: June 22, 2009, 10:45:56 PM
Dont blame the lack of signs. It stupid to jump/dive into water without checking first.

How much has he given to the starving kids of the 3rd world eh....

Does it suck hes fucked up...yeah. But it seems like it was his fault.

Why should Americans give money to third world countries when there are starving needy people here?  Fuck Zimbabasamolia, those fuckers aren't helping Americans out so they can help themselves.

Also, if you think my friend is at fault, good for you.  Everyone is entitled to their own opinions.  Shit happens to good, bad, and stupid people.  I just happen to like helping people, even if it's the homeless idiot who drank all his money away or my friend who didn't check first before jumping into some water.  I would like to think someone would help me out if I needed it.

I kinda remembered it differently. We were still flying F-16 sorties out of NZ in 1984 but our deployments to Australia were over and done. Bear in mind that I've been a civilian for almost 15 years and I don't keep up with such things.

The non-nukes thing was NZ. Dumbest thing we've ever done.

Sasha - I'm sorry to hear about your friend, and do come back to me if this gets dire, but I don't feel like plugging gaps in the healthcare system of the worlds richest and most powerful nation. My wife and I sponsor a lot of charities in nations without the resources to help their poor, and I'd rather Alan and his friends make a big noise to the local authorities than just ask people for money.
Loaded-Gun.com - I don't know what the hell they are talking about or why they are even there. They don't make serious points and they don't joke, but they still manage to make a lot of posts somehow.

It's so important that our government see that our faulty health care system is destroying its citizen's lives. Do what you can to make this as public as possible

Re: My friend Alan Reply #18 on: June 23, 2009, 10:47:03 AM
Yeah, cause if drunk unemployed ass hats who dive head first into murky water can't be nursed back to health, then we have obviously failed as a society.

Did you ever get injured from doing something stupid? I know I have!

Re: My friend Alan Reply #20 on: June 23, 2009, 02:59:42 PM
Fuck yeah. I've injured myself a ton of times doing stupid shit. I even spent several hours strapped to a board in the hospital while I got neck x-rays because I thought attempting to do a back flip off a chin up bar was the best idea ever. I thought I had fucked up my neck for sure, but it turned out I was only a dumb ass.

Still, as I was laying there staring at the hospital ceiling, all I could think about was how much of a dumb ass I was and not that it was somebody else's fault because the living room carpet wasn't properly labeled as a poor place to fall head first.

Re: My friend Alan Reply #21 on: June 23, 2009, 03:45:52 PM
But what if you didn't have health insurance? It just goes back to my belief that health insurance is a basic human right - no matter how dumb the injury.

I broke my arm when I was 13 in two places. I was running to first base... IN THE RAIN... slid and fell on it.
stupid

Re: My friend Alan Reply #22 on: June 23, 2009, 03:58:17 PM
The health care system is hosed. Insurance is part of the problem.

I broke my wrist snowboarding and didn't have health insurance. Went to the Emergency room and sat in the waiting room for 7 hours. Spent one hour in a bed waiting for X-rays to develop, got a percocet and sent home. The bill was almost 900 dollars for a pill, and x-ray, and 20 minutes of speaking to someone.

The next morning I went to an ortho guy who declared surgery was necessary. I told him I didn't have insurance. Instead got anesthesia, bone setting, three casts, and four office visits for $200. I had another x-ray done during the healing process for an additional 25 bucks.

I had a wisdom tooth pulled for 60 bucks cash. A couple of years later I had another one pulled in exactly the same manner (novacaine, tooth yanking). My insurance company was billed 300 bucks for the exact same five minutes of work that cost me 60 bucks elsewhere.

The insurance companies and the doctors / hospitals are constantly trying to shaft each other and the public's getting screwed in the process.

Thank you Mello for donating!!

Side note to Krpsna: he wasn't drunk, because he doesn't drink, and he was laid off.  He worked three part-time jobs doing office work and graphic design to make ends meet while he was looking for a job.  He's also an amazing artist. I already got a screen print shop to screen print posters of his artwork for free to sell at thAnd..is art show benefit my committee is setting up. If you don't want to donate, maybe you'd want to buy a poster.  I'll post pics of the art later this week.

Annnndddd...... guess what!  I had a job interview today at the Austin State School.  Look it up, it's a 150 year old crazy house. Oogie Boogie!

Re: My friend Alan Reply #24 on: June 23, 2009, 07:34:12 PM
I'd donate if I could, Sasha.

I agree with Krapsna though, it's the word insurance that fucks it all up. They don't have it in most European countries, don't even have a system for you to pay for a doctor visit. It's not so much that the government pays it, it's that that healthcare is so important and doctors don't charge an arm and a leg. It also helps that most European countries have both tort and liability reform so there is very little malpractice and almost no malpractice insurance.

This is what we need here.

NZ -> No insurance

They have it in Japan and I get FUCKING GOUGED because it's a compulsory tax, and I pay insurance based on my income. I pay probably $250 per month for one doctors visit every 3-4 months.

I absolutely agree - my point is that it's the government's responsibility to take hold of this system and the companies and set it straight for the people.

Utopian, I know. But what do you expect? i'm a dem. socialist.
