I think MAYBE it's time to keep "Thrash" Inc. BBS!!! Systems alive, after almost 30 years, just, uhm, "simpler" ... (started when I was 9 years old) ...
Look it up, it's HISTORY; I've made my mark(s) in every phase of technology, however, I wanna keep it alive, but, with less effort, and more toward how thing are "today" ...

I think simpler is better.  I definitely think combining things would be good.

I generally think (not your website particularly) that a lot of webpages get cluttered up with too much shit that detracts from their ability to either convey information or as a medium of communication.  Video ads, non-intuitive navigation...I could make a huge list of all of the things I don't like about current web design.  Generally, if it takes me more than 2-3 clicks to get where I want to go, I'm probably just going to go someplace else.  And if websites are cluttered with video,  flash, etc. I'm probably going to stop using them.

I absolutely agree with Emp.

Streamlining it would make it more attractive.
I like the features that it has, the games, ect. But things are hard to find, sometimes it runs slow and its just SO MUCH INFORMATION. Can you break it up a little?

As for the the forum, do what you want to. If this SMF thing works better for you, do it. If changing the site desgin works for you, do it.

Id like to see a common left hand side nav and forum design myself. or maybe the a-s version 2 teaser/splash page design.

Reason I dont use tsi much. A: load time ( script heavy ? ~shrug ) Why have a comments box when you gots a forum ? B: Nobody has answered the only question I have ever asked there. C: I dont really like people knowing my ip. I mean tom dick and harry...not you.

Yeah, before google really hit big it was really nice to be able to find a good site with tons of information. Sites like yours were one-stop-shops for people of a similar mindset.
