The only reason i can bring myself to kill and eat rabbits is 'cuz i kept a couple as "pets."  For Real.  They are DISGUSTING!!!

Well, and they're a damned good BBQ, too!

From the newspaper of the University of Victoria (the one in Canadia)

Im[Possible] Experiments

Hi, boys and girls! It's me again, Margaret, back with another edition of Im[Possible] Experi?ments. This week, we pay tribute to everyone's favourite furry campus rodent, in a little piece I like to call...

#63 How to Spot a Rabbit in the Dark

Materials:
Maglite or laser pointer
Salt shaker
Rabbit food
3 Tbsp of the core of a neutron star, minced

Use the salt shaker to sprinkle the neutron star core over the rabbit food. Place the laced food in an area you've spotted rabbits (for example, any?where on the UVic campus). Once all the rabbit food has been consumed, wait for a dark night. Take out your light source and shine it around. The gravitational field of the neutron star core in the rabbit's stomach will bend the beam of light, clearly indicating the position of the rabbits. What you do with the rabbit after you find him in the dark is completely up to you.

I'm pretty sure you'd die trying to do that experiment.

blah, blah, blah ...

yada, yada, yada ...

The gravitational field of the neutron star core in the rabbit's stomach will bend the beam of light, clearly indicating the position of the rabbits. What you do with the rabbit after you find him in the dark is completely up to you.

Excuse me, mr. einstein?  If the beam of light will be BENT, won't it be sort of like chasing the end of a rainbow?

Oh, yeah, anyway, we had rabbit stew tonight, with mixed veggies, and mushroom soup,

over rice, that i can now use to make some dessert with cream and cinnamon-sugar.  (Yeah, rum would be good in it, too, but i drank all of that the other night...   ::) )

Title: Re: barbecue bunny backs
Post by: fyrenza on August 24, 2009, 07:51:25 PM
Fail.

Well, once the rabbit stopped moving, you could close-in on it, but you might want to be sort of careful about what might get there, first...

Or if the rabbit fucking explodes from having a fucking neutron star in it's belly.
Title: Re: barbecue bunny backs
Post by: ttfg on August 24, 2009, 08:01:59 PM
yeah.....cause the problems only start once the rabbit gets invloved.

Billy?  Do you and Dilly raise 'em, or hunt them?  Oh.  Or both?

 we raise them..

rabbits are pretty much the most cost effective, space utilizing and prolific meat you can raise.you can pretty much feed them with kitchen scraps and yard waste..

3 does and one buck produce roughly 340 pounds of tender, lean meat a year.

 rabbit,the other white meat..lol

Too much rabbit meat and not enough vegetables will kill you according to Stephen Fry... and the crew of QI.

no worries there, we raise all our own veggies here as well.

the problem with rabbits is there lack of fat content, its like eating pure protein. but i dont think eating just rabbit would kill you any quicker than eating just meat of any kind or or a certain veggie. a balanced diet is always the way to go if one has a choice. eating only one thing of any kind will lead to malnutrition of one form or another.

now wild rabbits carry tularemia which can infect humans and that can kill you.

Yeah, that's why i was wondering about hunting 'em.  Down here, we have the Old Wives Tale of don't kill and eat wild rabbit in certain months with certain letters, or something ~ i never can remember.

What breed do y'all raise?  We looked at Californians, which seem to be the usual.

Oh, man!  Do y'all have any of those chickens that lay the colored eggs???  i want some of those!  lol
Title: Re: barbecue bunny backs
Post by: hippiehillbilly on August 27, 2009, 07:53:37 PM
no breed, just mutt rabbits .

we have raised aracaunas in the past (the ones with colored eggs) right now we only have one hen thats mixed with aracauna. a couple more mixed and the rest are black copper marans..

yeah wild rabbits and tree rats just like oysters shouldnt be harvested in months without a R.

Billy what do you think of Jersey Giants? More meat and bigger eggs, though lower yield. I think I asked you about them. There are other meaty breeds that have higher yields I guess.

Hey, mang,

if you'd STFU (and i AM the Queen of that), maybe the Rest of Us could listen up and learn some things from these folks.

We're staying in the same house for at least the next year, and Dear is clearing out the garage for me to be able to grow stuff in the winter, we have a set of chicken coops, but no cage, yet (might not need one...), and we'd like to set up a hutch.  i'd like to get a goat, but i'm not sure about the milk...

And i'd like to be able to speak with peeps as knowledgeable as hhBilly and Dilly are.

Capiche?
