Title: sunglasses
Post by: FAH-Q on November 04, 2009, 10:40:24 PM
Who wears 'em/likes 'em/hates 'em/etc?

I like the idea of them, have a couple pairs I like and wear pretty often, but in the end they just suck. It's always hot here so my eyes always sweat behind them, especially plastic framed shades. I no longer wear anything but wire framed ones for that reason.

Still, I'd say that 80% of the time when I'm wearing sunglasses, they're on my head and not in front of my eyes.

Being the outdoorsman that I am I wear Julbo Sherpas. They're affordable, functional and durable. Also they were in style in the early 80s and again when Stargate SG-1 was in full swing. But mostly the affordable, functional and durable thing.
I wear sunglasses like these:

I like guys who wear the plain black Ray Bans:

I used to always buy Oakleys, but they've pretty much moved to just putting out shitty fashion frames.

I've since bought from Spy & Smith Optics.  My preference is Smith because I've found they fit the shape of my face + my fat head better.

i have like six pairs of glasses, including my sunglasses..

zennioptical.com has great prices, lenses and frames starting at 8.00. all you need is your prescription, which you can get from your eye doctor.

i have an astigmatism that's pretty severe in my right eye; i'm actually legally blind. anyway, even with toric contact lenses i still can't see as clearly as with glasses so i don't even bother with contacts anymore.

There was NOTHING I looked forward to more this year then getting to actually SHOP for a pair of sunglasses!
(Lasik, remember)

My mother didn't get it at first; 30 years of glasses and/or 'script sunglasses, and clip-ons, or ....

I found the perfect pair, good cost, lost 'em in a month ...

I'm now "normal"!

I'm still with the Julbos. They look a little odd but they're manly, outdoorsman shades. Pefect for hiking and sailing, even without peripheral vision.

For driving I have either a nice pair of smoky Foster Grants or Ray Ban Wayfarers.

But I usually forget them and buy $5 shit at the gas station.

I have a pair of Oakleys I picked up at a party one wild summer in high school. It was an all-night drink-your-face-off event and I had the only van. I had nice sheep-skin seating and I left the door unlocked. I found the Oakleys the next morning and was about to bring them back into the house, but then I found the spent condom so fuck that. I consider them payment. They were really nice too: one of these $200 pairs or something. I've never owned anything else and never really needed sun-glasses until a few years ago when I was driving much more regularly. Now I'm back to being carless, so I couldn't care less.

PS - boobage noted with approval.

Those are wicked, Tru.

Reminds me of the best super villain ever: Mr. Freeze.

I never leave the house without shades. I keep a backup pair handy just in case I can't find the usuals.
I just bought a new cheap pair with skinny lenses and wire frames that I rather like. But I usually wear plastic frame ones since they are usually more comfortable and more durable.

It really bugs my eyes if I have to go out in the sun without some kind of shades.

I hate sunglasses.  When I'm walking or moving at all, air get around the frames and straight into my eyeballs.

Hell, when I get old and need real glasses, i'll just walk around bumping into shit and drive 25mph everywhere.  fuck glasses.

I used to hate both sunglasses and hoods. Now I like them both to a degree. My eyes have gotten much more sensitive to light with age, and hoods are sweet.

I'll deal with the sunlight, even on a bright sunshiny snow-covered day.  It's the air in my eyes I can't stand.

I even make my girlfriend move when she's breathing too close to my eyes.  I know.  I'm weird.

Yes but it isn't good for your eyes.

Especially down here. That's why I sorta make an effort to try and wear them when I can stand it. I'm sure I'm already going blind from a life spent largely in front of computer screens.

Perhaps but I specifically meant walking around in snow on a bright sunny day. All that UV that is normally absorbed gets reflected back into your eyes. Not a good thing. And you only get one pair.

Oh right. Yeah, snow is bad news without shades. I don't think I ever could've skiied without 'em.

Well you just don't know that now do you.

Perhaps the big screen thing is flashing images at an astonishing rate and the opaque goggle things are sorting them to create an entire virtual world for the specimen.

I don't see any optical sensors on the goggle-thing.
