Fuck yeah!
Not much blood in this one, though.
A lot of people would probably call it a boring fight, and it would've been, had Mayweather just been running away all fight long. But holy fuck, what a performance! MMA is generally so much more entertaining than boxing these days, it's easy to write boxing off. But with boxers like Floyd Mayweather around, boxing ain't dead yet.
The dude is all but impossible to hit. At least from a smaller, slower, and less technically talented fighter like Marquez. And I say that as someone who's watched Marquez several times against more appropriate opponents and been impressed. Mayweather clearly far outclassed Marquez, even despite the size difference, and I attribute the fact that he wasn't KO'd to Mayweather being unwilling to bother. Honestly, it was like watching a cat toy with a mouse.
They were both fairly gracious in their respective roles as victor and victim, and Mayweather only started acting like the dick he is once fellow asshole Max Kellerman pulled some WWF shit and called Shane Mosley into the ring to ask Mayweather to let a fight between the two of them get hooked up.
Now, I'd love to see a Mosley/Mayweather fight just as much as I'd love to see the aforementioned Pacquiao fight, especially after seeing what a size advantage can do for Mayweather against a smaller opponent, but there's a time and a place for everything. Dude just went 12 (admittedly not particularly difficult) rounds, at least give the guy the courtesy of a normal post-fight interview, and then let him and his people figure out what the best next move is. I love that the UFC dictates what key matchups happen, but boxing doesn't work like that. I don't blame Mosley for jumping in there, I blame Kellerman for letting/encouraging him.
All that said, could we please organize some kind of Mayweather/Pacquiao/Mosley round robin where they each fight each other three times at three different weights?
