Just on a general point it's "BP" no longer "British Petroleum". Half the Board are Americans, more shareholders (by %) are Americans than from the UK and way more workers are US employees than in UK. Shares listed in London, Frankfurt, Paris and... New York. Head office is still in the UK - at the moment. It's possibly fair to call BP an international company, but a bit of a stretch nowadays to call it a "British" company. If anything it's American.

It's never as bad as you think, it's worse. 2.5 million gallons per day.

To be fair, there were scientists saying 2,000,000-4,000,000 gallons per day from the very beginning.  It's just that the government and BP have been completely full of shit.

Of course, there are also some geologists that say this well is unlikely to be able to be capped and BP will never extract the "majority" of the oil.

I'm leaning towards that conclusion as well ....

The problem, of course, is that the "leak" is pouring out in an area where it greatly affects human activity.  It's another example of why humans aren't to be trusted with anything other than maybe sticks...and that's a big maybe.
