I love seafood. Shrimp and lobster are kind of like bugs. Exoskeleton and such.

Me too, I need to find me some of that Old Bay Seasoning Zoomie mentioned.

If you can't find old bay in the grocery store, I can pretty much trip over some on the way out the door.

Re: Current Food Thoughts Reply #337 on: June 14, 2012, 04:55:24 PM
It's not something I see in most of the stores here but I haven't looked very hard yet. I'm willing to bet it can be found in some of the higher end stores that I seldom frequent because of their frequently frequent high prices.

Push comes to shove I've looked up the ingredients and instructions and if I have to I'll make up a batch from scratch.

Woohoo go cooking!

I'm making a pot of pinto beans today with toasted pork bits and maybe I'll add a little BBQ sauce and diced tomatoes near the end for flavor.

I can't take the smell of Crab Boil.

And I've never had real lobster or crab.

I don't like old bay + crabs.  Of course, the only way I really like crabs is soft shell, with lettuce and mayo on white bread alongside a pitcher of Guinness at J. Patricks.

I do like old bay on potato products.

My face is broken.. i can only open my mouth a like an inch and can't really chew.. food has been limited to chicken noodle soup, jello and ice cream.

I'd kick a puppy in the face for chili cheese frys right now.  :'(

Re: Current Food Thoughts Reply #346 on: June 17, 2012, 05:06:58 PM

They're kinda slimy and not very good really, but they have a cult following.

Just my opinion.

Today I semi-caramelized a bunch of onions in olive oil with some salt and black pepper. Added about ten stalks of celery, diced. Six cloves of garlic, finely diced. Two and a half zucchini, diced. Dusted it with flour. Added some water, cooked back down. Added three soup ladles of starchy water from the rigatoni I was about to drain. Immersion blended it into a smooth consistency. Added two handfuls of Italian parsley, blended gently. Added half a zucchini, sliced and quartered. Added a heaped tablespoon of dark brown sugar. Cooked until zucchini chunks were tender. Served over the rigatoni.

It was really good, and relatively healthy. Most importantly, it's something that tastes sort of creamy or buttery, but without anything loaded with cholesterol. Which means it's something my mum will happily eat that's not terrible for her.

That sounds pretty good, Si.

Anyone ever try Kobe beef/burgers?

I had the opportunity to try a burger at a pub in town. Talk about a burger that will melt in your mouth. I nearly fainted when the tender morsels graced my tongue. My taste buds were popping like fireworks! The burger was around $16, but well worth it. I would recommend eating it plain with your own side of salt, pepper, fresh veggies, and condiments. Try a bite before adding anything.

The day I spends $16 dollars for a burger is the day I take the system down.

Tonight I'm making fried Alaskan Pollack with New Orleans style Fish Fry coating/seasoning.
I will have it with plain white rice and soy sauce and asparagus bits with mayo.

Ok well this fish fry seasoning makes a really nice coating, but seriously this shit " Louisiana Fish Fry Products 5267 Plank road

It's really weird that places market "Kobe Beef" in spite of no legitimate Kobe beef being shipped here.  If you're going to try to do something similar, you should be required to call it by a different name.

Yeah, I just read the wikipedia page about Kobe beef. Apparently, what I had was Wagyu , which I might add is very delicious.

Everyone I know who likes beef loves it - that makes it even more bizarre to me that they don't just use their own name.  It's not like they need to try to sell it on the name of the Japanese stuff.

Re: Current Food Thoughts Reply #359 on: June 19, 2012, 04:14:51 PM
While I'm sure the burger was delicious, any wagyu burger is kind of missing the point. The point being that the meat is mainly prized so highly because of its fat distribution. And you lose any marble benefit when you grind up all the scraps you can't sell as part of a steak and make burgers. Still, I'd happily pay $16 for one.
