I did computers and Japanese. While at high school over here in '99, I talked to a lot of foreigners about studying Japanese and every single person told me not to waste my time as it would only get me a teaching or translation role. Something they said stuck with me so I took computers also and I'm fucking grateful to have listened to those folk, considering I was 18 and not listening to anyone in those days. And you know what, I could have skipped Japanese also and done something else useful instead.

He was talking to whoever complained about how their working hours were set out and how it promoted inefficiency.

And the st folk bit... well thats obv.

I wasn't really complaining...more so pointing out that it's dumb on their part.

If I want an extra hundred bucks in my paycheck, I just take a little longer to do something.  It only sucks a couple of times a year when I actually have enough work that I need to work a ton of overtime.

I went to a temp agency today and had an interview and then an assessment.  I learned that I type 90wpm, 11,000keystrokes, and have a 97% accuracy rate with all Microsoft Suite Software.  Then they asked for two professional letters of recommendation.  I got one of my professors to do that and then I asked my friend Dave to do one.  But he's a dumbass.  So I hope he gets it done.  Oh and yea, I redid all the pictures on my etsy.  What a difference!  I'm going to send the link to the woman who owns parts and labor here, (DIY resale), and see if she will consign them.

I went to UM part time for 7 years and am soooooo close to my BCE. But quite frankly I can make more money replacing toilets for old ladies in the burbs. So fuck it.

I'm sure you can make even more scratch flushing old ladies down the toilet...

Two people quit at work today, senior people. Half what they did will be lumped on me, and we're hiring an enthusiastic youth to take on shit I can't be bothered with any more.

I mean, we're hiring! Tokyo anyone? Japanese is a must I'm afraid, but what harm did a little study every do anyone?

I don't know that you'd call ST a "busy forum," exactly...

Right now, it's small, but the current owners have set it up really well for being able to Grow & Prosper ~ Articles Pages, blogs, galleries, arcade, etc.  I plan to add a store front for members to buy and/or sell, as well as some sort of casino AND I plan to trim down the amount of

(I'm not sure I'm saying this correctly:  The site is the Forum, and the categories are boards?)

boards/categories.

(Nick?  I LURVE your observation, and am trying to figure out a way to tout ST as a Moderated Free Speech Forum!  rofl )

Dave?  Is there something in particular that you've noticed, other than me being drunk and high most of the time, that would make you think I wouldn't be able to handle it?  I don't know much, right now, about the inner and under workings, but I'm a quick study, and willing to learn.  On the off chance that I don't become an absolute Expert within the next 2 months,

I've found a host site that specializes in vBulletin Forums, that will move the entire site for me, in 4 hours or less, guaranteed, for $100, and the monthly costs are what I consider reasonable, about $50/mo for the Premium Service.  They also provide support for those times that I might "KeyStone" it!

I also have two partners, and I would hope that the current owners would remain and allow me to ask dumb questions.  One of the partners is already Mod and vBulletin literate, and I expect she will be an excellent source of information on both.

Hey, and if this gets boring to everyone, I'm happy to take it to PM's.

I'm still pretty excited about it all, and realize that I'm looking at it through the proverbial Rose-Colored Glasses, so any Reality Checks are most appreciated!

Unfortunately, no.

The license for the software costs money, as well as the hosting, and the thing is, I watched them pour blood, sweat and tears into the place, and honestly feel like their effort is worth Something...

Re: Current Thoughts Reply #5566 on: June 03, 2010, 11:22:14 AM
I might be getting this job that doesn't start until July 19, and the contract on it is for two years.  I am wondering if I should take it and enroll in the New College at my school : http://www.stedwards.edu/newc/about.htm .  I have applied for every living expense loan and have been denied.  I have asked people to be cosigners and all have said no.  I have tried to get a part time job and no one will hire me.  I also have asked all my family members for help and they can't do it.  Maybe this is a good idea?  At least I will end up with a degree in Business Management.  Not the degree I wanted, but something!  Plus I already have my tuition paid and if you stop school to work and then wait six months your student loans default and you have to pay them back and can't get anymore.... so I really can afford to stop school.  Let me know what you guys think.  You are the only credible people I can ask for advice on such matter because you aren't all a bunch of fucking morons, except for Danzig.

Re: Current Thoughts Reply #5567 on: June 03, 2010, 11:53:17 AM
how credible is this new degree vs the one you're in now? Over the next 35 working years you have to look forward to, which is more valuable? Hard questions but worth asking. One you're in management in your late 30's, what do you want to be doing?

All in all, is this an easy and ultimately worthless out, or does it mean something?

edit: how fucking hard is it to finish college over there? Serious question. In New Zealand, once you're twenty you can go to any school in the country, all loans are through the government and they can't turn you down, and tuition and living costs are like $10K per year. WTF. Did I come from some sort of utopia, because it sure didn't feel like it at the time, it felt drunk.

I mean fuck, if America is that screwed up, just move down under. There is no industrial farming, the sports are more interesting and if you're in NZ you can surf and snowboard in the same day in the spring. You've got what, 50 year left at best, do you want to spend 5 of them fucking around with uni and another 10 paying for it?

Re: Current Thoughts Reply #5568 on: June 03, 2010, 11:56:43 AM
Once youre twenty?

When did you start uni?

Re: Current Thoughts Reply #5569 on: June 03, 2010, 12:03:56 PM
Is the degree still through the regular school and not designated differently?  That would probably make a difference, as alternative programs are judged differently by employers.

If you fail in highschool you can go to any uni after passing 20 and have another crack. If you fail, they take your money, if you succeed then well done

Re: Current Thoughts Reply #5571 on: June 03, 2010, 02:41:14 PM
It is through my school and is a BBA just like the BBA I was getting, plus I can get a minor in accounting.  It is really hard to finish school here if you have no one helping you out.  My cost of living, if I don't get sick and barely eat, is $14,000 a year.  That is the cost of all my bills and rent combined not even factoring in "emergency" car money.  I need to pull in about $1200 a month to cover living expenses and no one can help me out.  My school is $12,000 a semester.  Loans and grants cover all BUT $1700 a semester.  Also, books cost $1000 a semester.  That is why sooooooo many people here don't go to college and why many others can't finish... too expensive.

But yea, I am going to talk to someone from my school today to find out if it is worth it or if I should just drop out and focus on making money and maybe going back when I can afford it.

Re: Current Thoughts Reply #5572 on: June 03, 2010, 03:05:11 PM
Go to school somewhere else?

I need to work out where to apply for uni, ugh...

Re: Current Thoughts Reply #5573 on: June 03, 2010, 03:08:29 PM
If your tuition is paid, I wouldn't stop now.  I would run with the program you posted.

Dropping out and trying to go back later would take a lot of discipline.  Once you're making money, it's easy to live up to that income instead of saving.  It's also easy to get used to the lifestyle more money gives you, which will make it harder to pare down and go back to school later.

If you can find a way, do it. Because it'll be really tough to go back once you walk away once.

I can't help you on the debt front, but if I were to go to school again now with what I know, I would buy a ruin of a house, renovate it on the cheap, rent out the spare rooms and go to the bank to refinance based on an updated valuation.
