I watched a little bit of this.  I think it's interesting that the ideas have finally gone mainstream.

It did come out sounding like an advertisement for the "green economy," though.  I was pretty put off by the continuing celebration of half-ass solutions.  For example, they had a bit about stackable electric cars that could also hook to some train thing...seriously, just build a fucking train.

I also thought that the idea of NYC as some sort of Mecca when the shit really hits the fan was kind of funny.  Especially when they get to the point in the show about building giant walls to protect NYC from sea level rise - there are other places in the US.  Places where you don't have labor intensive buildings to maintain.  Places where there are also canals and rivers to use for transportation, yet where you wouldn't have to build a giant wall to prevent the city from being flooded.

In America, apparently the only places that exist are the big cities like LA and NY.  People seem to forget that there exists a whole world outside their bustling metropolises.

Life in the vault isn't perfect, but the overseer only wants what is best for us.  It's too dangerous out there for you.
Pour the wine, hold the grind, quarter to nine, let's go.

That's right...what if they expand life expectancy to 200 years and it becomes practically impossible to kill yourself?  What then?

Re: Earth 2100 Reply #9 on: June 04, 2009, 09:33:32 AM
They'd only need to increase life expectancy to 150 years.  Mosh isn't THAT old!

Also, they can legislate suicide away, I bet!

I mean practically impossible in the sense that you'd have to put a grenade in your mouth to do the sort of damage a doctor couldn't fix.

I watched part of that too, it was pretty interesting. But like you said they made a lot of predictions that may not come true.

Well I'll be 100 years old sometime in 2068.

I would likely be a drooling mess incapable of getting, let alone maintaining an erection. Currently, I'm just a drooling mess.
