I just conducted an informal office poll amongst my three male co-workers that consisted of the following question: "If you were hanging out with some dude and he told you that he generally preferrs women but sucks dick too from time to time would you consider him gay, bi, or straight?"

Three of three respondants answered gay. I think they also suspect that I'm gay now just for asking that question. As a matter of fact, one of them just walked into my office and said, "So who's your boyfriend?" and started making sucky noises at me. He then followed up that question with "What happened, did you meet some dude and accidentally suck his dick last night?"

My job is simple. I assist in building things that identify hostile maritime vessels. I hope to build them by myself one day.

I thought hip was a bartender.

And I thought Daddy was a radio DJ.

Re: Current Thoughts Reply #5522 on: May 31, 2010, 12:35:44 PM
I am a DJ, but it is one five hour shift a week on Saturday nights. The powers that be can not stand our show but we give them metal credibility. When we start streaming, I'll let you cats know.

I like the idea of a financial reward for producing results.  When I used to work for section 8 housing I would process applications for housing.  I processed more and more everyday because it gave me something to do, compete with myself.  I think all the other employees would've worked harder if there was an incentive.  But yea, service industry sucks.

Financial services would be good for you.

Re: Current Thoughts Reply #5525 on: June 01, 2010, 02:10:11 AM
when I moved to providence in December I left my salaried restaurant manager (slash bartender) position to start from scratch somewhere else. I job hunted with resume in hand and happened upon this pure gem of a bar (if we're talking money). I've been making $200-$600 on any given night, at four to five nights per week. I have been promoted to manager after my brief three month tenure, which carries a per shift manager rate of $100 a pop plus the usual tips behind the bar. Money rules my schedule. I work these late nights, can't get to sleep sometimes until around 5am because I'm so wired, and wake up sometime around noonish, hating that I've slept the whole morning away. But then I count my winnings from the night before, and can't be mad at anyone. I work hard, yes, and some days (Sundays) am on my feet from 9am-3/4am the next morning, but it's always worth the money in the end. It's not for forever, and I'm going back to school in the fall to ensure that. Sure, i complain, but why not do it while I still can and rake in the dough for a few more years while I still have my energy level and good looks? Complaints aside, this past Sunday I ended up making about $420, and today (although I only slept for a total of 12 hours in the last four days) I had a phenomenal day at the beach, intermittently napping between glasses of wine on a beach chair facing the Atlantic and surrounded by family. I was just a goddamn cranky bitch when I posted before, and I'm sorry.

Sorry? Sorry, but we'll never forgive you. That was it. Your last chance. Sorry, crankmastercrank, but it's over. Many other short but to the point sentences. And stuff.
ever tried. ever failed. no matter. try again. fail again. fail better.

I think she's studying psychology.  She won't pull in $400 a day with that kind of degree, unless she takes it to the doctor level.  I'm a junior in school right now and can't even get a fucking job working the check out line in the grocery store.

Re: Current Thoughts Reply #5531 on: June 01, 2010, 09:55:16 AM
All I've heard about psych degrees make them seem not worth the effort. It seems like so many people have them that the return on investment is quite low when trying to leverage later on.

Think about your degree the way you would think about buying a company, because that's what you're doing. Assume $40-50K in lost income per year, plus tuition and living costs and a degree costs about $250-$300K all up, and takes 4 years of your life. The result is supposedly an income producing asset, ie you.

I preach what I never practiced, for me university was about girls, beer and beer.

I want to do a chemistry degree.

Re: Current Thoughts Reply #5534 on: June 01, 2010, 11:47:20 AM
Wanting and Doing are two different things.  I wanted to become an entomologist but I am doing accounting.

Re: Current Thoughts Reply #5535 on: June 01, 2010, 12:01:23 PM
Woah, that was unexpected.

My goal is reasonable, I'm doin chemistry and physics right now, and most unis (that ive looked at) either just ask for chemistry or chem and another science. Plus I can get decent grades, that I know. Its a case of whether the unis are too overapplied for.

Plus it kinda helps that I dont really have any other options.

Yeah that was undergrad for me. God how I miss undergrad.

I wanted to become an entomologist
Not that it means anything but you just jumped majorly in the personal value scale in my books. I too wanted to become an entomologist for a long time. I worked for a time at an entomological museum actually. I was in charge of feeding the phasmids and hissing cockroaches.

I want to do a chemistry degree.
My brother is doing that. It's not very fun but it has decent prospects for careers. I say go for it if you can put up with annoying memorization.

Re: Current Thoughts Reply #5537 on: June 01, 2010, 12:46:19 PM
Not fun and lots of memorisation, isnt that what most degrees are like?

Re: Current Thoughts Reply #5538 on: June 01, 2010, 01:01:53 PM
I have basically had to memorize nothing and thought a lot of the assignments in my degree program were fun.

The actual jobs are a different story.

Re: Current Thoughts Reply #5539 on: June 01, 2010, 01:12:02 PM
What degree did you get?

Re: Current Thoughts Reply #5540 on: June 01, 2010, 02:19:25 PM
I have a degree in a field that I do as a hobby. Radio projects were fun because we had to be creative in the class room and production room. However, in mainstream commercial radio, it is formulaic in design and you simply plug everything in to the preset equation. The only way you make money in radio is to either be a beast in the sales department working off commission or be a primetime slot jock with lots of remote broadcasts. All the money is made in perks and talent fees. On a site remote, we make 75 an hour. Not shabby. As an hourly part-time jock, we make minimum wage. Our drive time jocks live for free at various apartment communities valued at about $12,000 a year. Then when all took paycuts last year, the ones that live rent free bitched the most. While the staff who have to pay for things and not use barter wanted to throttle them. My day job is just mindless moving of material from one department to another plus it pays decently and is paying for 80% of my transplant.

That's bugshit, baby!

I went to UM part time for 7 years and am soooooo close to my BCE. But quite frankly I can make more money replacing toilets for old ladies in the burbs. So fuck it.
